A book by a former Abbotsford News reporter explores a 5,000-year religious controversy.

Trudy Beyak has penned "The Mother Heart of God: Unveiling the Mystery of the Father's Maternal Love."

The nonfiction book, released this week by Faith Words, questions whether scholars, while focusing on paternal or fatherly qualities of God, forgot or ignored the maternal aspects.

Beyak delves into why this issue triggers such controversy and includes interviews with more than 50 leading biblical scholars and celebrities from North America to the Middle East.

Among those with whom Beyak spoke are: Dr. Raymond Damadian, the inventor of the MRI machine; the Vatican and renowned Catholic scholars; Della Reese, co-star of the popular TV show Touched by an Angel; Jurgen Moltmann, one of the world's leading Protestant theologians; and Rabbi Laura Duhan Kaplan, former U.S. Professor of the Year.

Beyak worked for the Abbotsford News for 20 years, earning numerous first-place awards for her pieces, including her work on the Sumas Energy 2 power plant proposal and its demise.

She will be signing copies of her book at the House of James (2743 Emerson St.) on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit themotherheartofgod.com.
