Floodwaters are starting to abate in Huntingdon Village in Abbotsford

Mayor Henry Braun says Nooksack River not expected to overflow again in next few days

Floodwaters in the Huntingdon Village area of Abbotsford remained stable on Tuesday (Nov. 30) in the midst of the region’s third atmospheric river since Nov. 25.

The water level began to rise on Monday after the Nooksack River in Washington State overtopped its banks on Sunday. But Mayor Henry Braun said at the city’s daily press conference on Tuesday afternoon that the levels are starting to abate.

Braun said projections from Whatcom County indicate that, at this time, the Nooksack River is not expected to overflow its banks again in the next few days.

“However, the situation remains fluid and there is still some uncertainty, and we will be monitoring the situation very closely,” he said.
