Flames ripped through a large barn containing a medical marijuana grow operation in Abbotsford on Sunday night.

The fire started before 10 p.m. in the structure near Vye Road and Kenny Road on Sumas Prairie, and burned the 40'x100' barn, as well as a 30'x50' Quonset.

Multiple trucks from the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service and police cars responded to the scene, shutting down Vye Road. About 45 firefighters were on scene to deal with the flames and worked throughout the night. Quick action by fire crews kept the blaze from spreading to other nearby buildings on the farm.

The site was used as a licensed medical grow operation. Both structures and all contents were destroyed in the fire, with total losses estimated at more than $100,000.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
