A machine shop in Bradner was destroyed by fire Saturday night and caused about $800,000 in damage, according to Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS).

AFRS responded to the blaze at 5887 Bradner Rd. at about 11:30 p.m. Deputy Chief Mike Helmer said crews arrived to find the shop fully engulfed in 100-foot flames.

Crews worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby home, he said. Approximately 35 firefighters and eight apparatus from five halls fought the blaze, which was contained after about 90 minutes.

"Fire crews are to be credited for preventing further fire damage by protecting the adjacent homes and vehicles with strategically positioned hose lines," Helmer said.

He said several heavy-duty vehicles were destroyed, including dump trucks, forklifts, and small excavators.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is not considered suspicious, Helmer added.
