Fire quickly destroyed an abandoned home on Tims Street in Abbotsford on Thursday night.

A fire Thursday night in Abbotsford destroyed an abandoned home on Tims Street.

Jeff Adams, assistant chief for Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS), said fire crews were dispatched to the home – located south of George Ferguson Way – just before 9:30 p.m.

He said the home was in the process of being prepared for demolition, and all the windows and drywall had been removed.

This enabled the fire to spread quickly, although crews were able to prevent it from damaging nearby homes.

An electrical cause has been ruled out, as there was no power to the home.

Adams said three youths had been spotted setting fires in the area about two hours before, but it's not known whether they are connected to the Tims Street blaze.

He said the file has been turned over to the Abbotsford Police Department.
