Fire damages townhouse in Abbotsford

Blaze took place on Clearbrook Road on Saturday afternoon.

A fire at a townhouse complex in Abbotsford on Saturday afternoon caused about $100,000 in damages.

Crews from Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service were called out at 4:10 p.m. to the complex at 3044 Clearbrook Rd. to a report of a smell of smoke and the activation of fire alarms.

They quickly identified the unit involved. The fire was contained to the kitchen, but there was extensive smoke damage throughout the structure and water damage to the unit below.

Assistant Fire Chief Dave Rivett said no one was at home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental and likely caused by an electrical problem.
