Fire damages basement in Abbotsford

Crews were called to the blaze on Beech Street just after 7 a.m. on Friday.

The basement of an Abbotsford home was damaged by a fire on Friday morning, and the rest of the home suffered heavy smoke damage.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service was called to the residence at 31809 Beech Street – near Center Street –  just after 7 a.m.

When crews arrived, the home was filled with smoke and there was a small fire in the basement. The home was unoccupied at the time.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious.

A total of 23 firefighters and eight units attended the fire.
