WorkSafeBC is investigating an industrial accident that resulted in the death of a worker on Friday afternoon at Loewen Welding and Manufacturing in Abbotsford.
WorkSafeBC spokesperson Trish Knight Chernecki said she could release few details at this time, except to say that “workers were working on a solid manure spreader when the incident occurred.”
She said she did not know the exact cause of death, but more details will be available when the investigation is complete by WorkSafe and an engineer.
Chernecki said that information could take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months to be available, depending on the complexity of the investigation.
Emergency crews were called at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday to Loewen Welding on Harris Road, just west of the Abbotsford-Mission Highway.
An air ambulance was called but was cancelled shortly after crews arrived.
Abbotsford Police officers also arrived at the site, police tape was placed around an outbuilding and a coroner arrived on the scene.
Police are no longer involved in the investigation.
Loewen Welding manufactures farm equipment, including manure spreaders, feed mixers and cattle chutes.
