False alarm at Matsqui Recreation Centre

An overheated element in the facility's sauna led to a short evacuation.

A false alarm led to the evacuation of Matsqui Recreation Centre.



There was a false alarm at Matsqui Recreation Centre today as firefighters were called in to address an element that overheated in the facility’s sauna.

Those at the centre were asked to evacuate, but were allowed to re-enter minutes after firefighters arrived.

According to a firefighter at the scene, there was no fire, just a lot of smoke created from the element.

The sauna will remain closed off to public.

No one from the recreation centre was able to offer additional information at the time.
