A man who was among three prisoners who went on the lam from a work crew in Maple Ridge last December has been sentenced for the stolen ID that was in his possession when police captured him.

Ryan Plotnikoff, 31, was sentenced Thursday in Abbotsford provincial court to 15 months prison and two years probation. He had been charged with possession of an identity document without lawful excuse and the unauthorized use of credit card data.

Plotnikoff was on a Fraser Regional Correction Centre crew in Allco Park in Maple Ridge on Dec. 30 when he fled with two other inmates – Douglas Erickson, 42, and David Traill, 48.

He had been serving a 10-month sentence after pleading guilty to stolen property and unauthorized use of credit card data in Abbotsford, stemming from his arrest on Aug. 7, 2010. At that time, police found in his vehicle two point-of-sale terminals that had been stolen from a South Surrey business.

Plotnikoff was the last of the three escapees to be captured. A police officer, suspecting he was driving a stolen vehicle, stopped him Feb. 26 on Highway 1 near McCallum Road in Abbotsford.

Plotnikoff was not forthcoming with his real identity at first, but the officer soon discovered he was wanted on a warrant.

Shortly after, Plotnikoff was handed an additional 30 days in prison for the escape. Erickson and Traill, who were both captured in January, also each received 30 extra days for going on the lam.
