A COVID-19 emergency relief fund for charities that help the city’s most at-risk populations has been organized by the Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF).
“We know the demands the COVID-19 pandemic [has] placed on the charitable and public health sectors and can only anticipate the long-term effects it will have on our communities,” says an ACF prelease from March 25.
“The ACF is moving with immediate support for charitable organizations serving vulnerable persons by providing $30,000 in emergency funding to be distributed equally to four of the local agencies that provide shelter and food services for the most vulnerable people in our community.
“We want you to know that the Abbotsford Community Foundation will be here when it counts.”
Archway Food Bank, the Cyrus Centre, Sara for Women and the Salvation Army will all be recipients of the funds. The ACF hopes that more donations from Abbotsford citizens, businesses and the public sector will made, with the goal of raising an additional $30,000.
“As the charity for charities, the ACF has distributed more than $600,000 in grants since 2013 to Abbotsford charities for the programs that help vulnerable children and families,” said Lorna hart, the chair of ACF’s board.
“We are proud of our history of over 40 years of giving to the Abbotsford community, and this emergency response fund demonstrates ACF’s ongoing commitment to inspiring, impacting and investing in our community.”
