Raymond Kobes has announced plans to seek a seat at the council table in the November civic election.
The 19-year-old student at the University of the Fraser Valley is currently working on a degree in business with an extended minor in French.
Kobes said he is running in part to help “represent the youth and young adults that are prevalent in Abbotsford,” adding that he plans to do this with a conservative financial approach.
The lifelong Abbotsford resident sits on the parks, recreation and culture commission, is an organizer for the Jam in Jubilee summer concert series and a member of other local organizations.
He lists on his website the importance of youth representation, accountability and transparency in city council, keeping the city “both environmentally friendly while keeping it a economically inviting city,” and allowing small entrepreneurs and business owners to “be free and able to work here in Abbotsford, growing and promoting their businesses.”
Kobes said he intents to build support through direct communication and people can expect him to “knock on their doors in the coming months in order to build a relationship with them.”
