Eight children treated for minor injuries after school bus collision in Deroche area

Mission RCMP are on scene after a small sedan collided with a school bus on the Lougheed Highway by Husband Road.

A school bus and a small sedan collided on the Lougheed Highway in Mission this morning.

According to Mission RCMP, eight kids are being treated for minor injuries after the incident, which occurred at about 9 a.m. in the area of Lougheed Highway and Husband Road in Deroche.

The highway was closed for about two hours but has now reopened.

The school bus, which is from the Chehalis Community School (Sts’ailes Community School) was stationary at the time of the accident and had 60 children on board as well as two infants and the bus driver.

The sedan only had the driver inside.

Upper Fraser Valley Traffic Services is taking over the investigation.

The school sent more buses to the scene to pick up any students who were not injured.

While the investigation continues, Mission RCMP have said icy roads and the speed of the sedan are considered to be contributing factors in the accident.
