The mayors of the Eastern Fraser Valley are banding together to urge their communities to get vaccinated following yesterday’s announcement of increased restrictions on the region.

The region has the lowest vaccination rates in the Lower Mainland, consequently also having the highest infection rates, leading to a strain on local hospitals.

On Sept. 29, B.C.’s provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, imposed a series of new restrictions in Abbotsford, Agassiz, Harrison, Hope, Chilliwack and Mission and surrounding communities under the Fraser East delivery area.

“Fraser Health has seen the lowest immunization rates in these communities and in turn, the highest case rates which has led to impacts on our schools, workplaces and hospitals in the Fraser East region. Now is the time for all of us to help protect our communities by getting vaccinated,” says a joint press release from six mayors and the chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District.
