Drug charges have been stayed against two Abbotsford men in separate cases.
Marc Edward Johnson, 29, was charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking following his arrest last summer. That charge was stayed June 27 in Chilliwack Supreme Court.
The Abbotsford Police’s gang suppression unit, with the help of four other squads, swooped down on a vehicle on Highway 1 near Whatcom Road on June 21, 2010.
About 20 kilograms of cocaine, estimated to be worth $1 million, was found in the trunk of the vehicle.
Johnson had no prior criminal record.
John Bustos, 28, was charged with trafficking in cocaine as part of an investigation targeting a dial-a-dope operation in Abbotsford in January of this year.
At the time of his arrest, police alleged that Bustos was an associate of the United Nations Gang. They also said he had been seen in the company of Duhre Group members.
Bustos’ charge was stayed Wednesday in Abbotsford provincial court.
Crown counsel has up to one year to reinstate charges after they are stayed.
