Tourism Abbotsford has hired a consulting firm to help develop a new five-year strategic plan.

It will replace the current 2012-17 plan, focusing on growing the local tourism sector. According to a press release, it will identify tourism goals, vision, strategies and outline an action plan, and will “serve as the basis for discussions with the accommodation sector to renew their support for the municipal regional district tax.” That is levied on hotel operators to provide funding for tourism promotion.

Suzanne Denbak, of Cadence Strategies, and fellow consultant Laura Plant will host a number of drop-in opportunities and workshops for local tourism stakeholders.

The first meeting is Thursday, June 16 at Highstreet shopping centre.

Those interested are invited to drop by between 2 and 5 p.m. to share ideas. The meeting location is unit G125, directly across from Milestones.

A tourism planning workshop will take place Tuesday, June 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
