Driver reaches for cellphone and crashes into pole

The Abbotsford driver is not injured in the collision, but his car sustains major damage.

A driver crashed into a telephone pole in Abbotsford on Sunday morning after reaching to grab the cellphone that he had dropped.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the 41-year-old man was travelling west on Maclure Road, just before Gladwin Road, at about 7 a.m. when the incident occurred.

MacDonald said the man refused medical service at the scene, and his vehicle, a 2004 Land Rover, sustained about $15,000 in damage.

The driver was issued a $196 ticket for driving without consideration.
