Police responded to reports a man was injured while changing the sign on a bus bench on Wednesday afternoon.

A man was pinned between two vehicles while working to change the advertisements on a bus stop bench on Wednesday afternoon.

Abbotsford Police, Fire Rescue Services and ambulance services responded to the accident at the corner of Old Yale Road and Sunnyside Street.

At about 12:20, a man was stopped in front of a bus bench. Police say the driver got out of his vehicle and went to the back in order to change the advertisements on the bench.

A second driver, driving a van eastbound, allegedly rear ended the stopped vehicle, pinning the man between the vehicles.

The victim managed to free himself, but Const. Ian MacDonald said the man has gone to hospital with significant injuries to his legs.

MacDonald said the driver of the van stayed on the scene and co-operated with police, who are now investigating.

MacDonald recommended that drivers stay alert and pay attention to posted speeds.

“I would suggest that some of the sight lines along this area of road are concerning, and that’s why there are posted speed signs.”

Abbotsford Police have warned drivers to expect traffic diversions in the area for the next few hours.
