Driver in Abbotsford accident airlifted to hospital

The driver of a small car had to be extricated by emergency crews

The driver of this car had to be airlifted to hospital Wednesday evening.


At around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Abbotsford Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to the intersection of Crossley Drive and Maclure Road for a serious two-vehicle crash between a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Explorer.

As it entered the intersection, the Corolla was struck on the driver's door by the Explorer, which was westbound on Maclure.

The 32-year-old driver of the Corolla was seriously injured, and trapped in the driver’s seat.

The Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service extricated the woman and she was sent by air ambulance to a Vancouver hospital. The 17-year-old driver of the SUV was shaken but unhurt. Both are from Abbotsford.

The female driver remains in critical condition in hospital.

This intersection has been the scene of several fatal accidents and numerous crashes over the years.
