The really poor job of parking was the first clue that the client of an Aldergrove bank had been drinking.

It was Saturday morning (Jan. 15) around 10 a.m. and the RBC branch in the 27500 block of Fraser Highway had been open barely half an hour when a car overshot the curb and banged into an exterior wall.

The branch manager described the impact as a “bump.”

There was no serious damage to either the car or the wall, but once the driver was inside the bank, it was obvious he’d had more than a few.

Langley RCMP officers arrived with a portable breath alcohol testing device that confirmed the customer’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

The man, a 42-year-old Abbotsford resident, blew a “fail” which meant his driving licence was suspended for 90 days and his car was seized for 30 days.

On that weekend alone, there were 10 cases in the Langley area where drivers blew above the legal maximum and lost their licences and vehicles.

There were also three incidents where drivers blew a “warn” meaning they were not technically over the maximum, but they were close enough to lose their right to drive for three days and their vehicles for seven.

“It’s proven time and time again that alcohol and driving don’t mix,” Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said.

“If you are planning to drink, please plan for an alternate mode of transportation.”
