Cyclist dies after crash in Abbotsford

The man lost control of his bike along Blueridge Drive on Saturday night.

A 47-year-old Abbotsford man died Saturday night after he lost control of his bicycle and collided with a light pole.

The incident took place at about 5 p.m. on Blueridge Drive near the crossing for Discovery Trail, located west of Clearbrook Road.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the man was travelling east, down a steep hill, when he lost control of his bike and veered into a curb on his right.

The cyclist was then thrown from his bike, and his head hit a light pole. The man was not wearing a helmet, MacDonald said.

An ambulance transported the man to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Abbotsford Police, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance were on the scene.
