The Lougheed Highway east of Mission was closed for several hours Friday after a single-vehicle accident sent two people to hospital.
As of Monday afternoon, both 19 year olds are still in hospital in serious, but not critical condition, said Mission RCMP Sgt. Miriam Dickson.
Local emergency personnel were called to the 43700-block of Highway 7 July 1 around 10:25 a.m. for a report of a car into a tree on private property.
The homeowner came outside, and with the help of a passing motorist, pried the door open and gently removed the female from the passenger seat. The homeowner, who requested anonymity, then crawled back into the vehicle and elevated the male driver's head to keep an airway open until North Fraser firefighters arrived and removed the patient.
Both were airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital, said Dickson. Speed was likely a factor in the crash, she said.
The Mounties' Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) investigated the accident.
