Earlier this month, Abbotsford Police warned the public about the release from prison of a convicted sex offender.

Now, that man – James Douglas Campbell – is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole after leaving his home and the jurisdiction without permission on Friday night.

Campbell, 60, was let out of jail on statutory release May 11 after having served his third federal sentence. He was expected to reside in Abbotsford with his 90-year-old wife.

His criminal history includes sexual assault, theft, break-and-enter, forgery and illegal possession of a firearm.

He had completed a 24-year sentence for sexual offences against three girls – ages 12, nine and seven. He abducted one of the them while she was walking to school.

Police first issued a warning about Campbell a year ago when he was granted unescorted temporary absences from prison to visit his wife. His case management team opposed the passes, saying that Campbell had not been fully compliant with some requirements of the Sex Offender Maintenance Programming.

He previously went on the lam while on day parole in 2004. He was later arrested in Falkland in the Okanagan after he had broken into several cabins to steal food.

His parole was then revoked.

Campbell is described a 5' 9", 161 pounds, with balding grey hair, blue eyes and glasses. Anyone who sees him is asked to call police immediately. Anyone with details about his whereabouts should contact the Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
