Commercial space for Mahogany tower

The first three storeys of the 26-storey building at Mill Lake will consist of businesses.

The Mahogany at Mill Lake tower project will contain commercial space.

Abbotsford council gave second and third reading to a bylaw that would permit the first three storeys of the tower’s podium to consist of businesses with the remaining space dedicated to residential use.

The 26-storey tower will be located at 2180 Gladwin Rd.

Residents of the area raised concerns regarding parking at a public hearing held May 14.

Mayor Bruce Banman said a staff report, presented Monday night, indicated the visitor and commercial parking included in the project design “should be more than enough.”

He said street parking in the area is signed for residents only, but non-residents appear to also park there.

“Note to those who are using that street that should be parking at the hospital: Enforcement is going to be upped,” said Banman.

Quantum Properties, the company which will build the tower, plans to allocate 26,856 square feet for medical offices, small retail use and a cafe.
