The city’s general manager of engineering and regional utilities, Jim Gordon, is retiring this week, announced Mayor Henry Braun at Monday’s council meeting.
Gordon joined the city in 1989 as operations lead at the city works yard, said Braun. He was very involved in the merging process in 1995 when Abbotsford and Matsqui amalgamated. In 2005, the city took over the regional utilities services, “something that is still rare for municipal governments to oversee,” said Braun, and Gordon took the lead over the transition and ensured it was smooth.
“Your leadership and expertise will be sorely missed by all at the City of Abbotsford,” said Braun.
