The City of Abbotsford has put a dollar figure on the proposal to replace the fire-destroyed clubhouse at Ledgeview Golf Course.

Last week, the city re-issued its request for expressions of interest (RFEI), through which it is seeking private companies to build a new clubhouse and 250-seat banquet hall at the site. The new RFEI says the city is willing to spend up to $2 million to build the new facility.

City manager George Murray said the funds comes from insurance money received after the April fire that destroyed the clubhouse. They don’t include $1.3 million pledged by Kinder Morgan for a new clubhouse prior to the fire. The insurance money must be used to replace the destroyed building.

The city has suggested that the Kinder Morgan money – which is conditional upon the federal government approving the expansion of the company’s pipeline – could be used towards other projects, with an expansion to the Matsqui Recreation Centre one possibility suggested.

Murray said the second RFEI was issued and amended because the city “didn’t receive the number of bids and quality of bids we were hoping for.”
