Aimed at finding ways to save taxpayers' money in providing essential services, a proposed review has been postponed.
Coun. Henry Braun brought forward the idea of conducting a core service review last January. He was also the councillor who suggested the delay.
“When I introduced it, I was green,” he said. “I didn’t think it would take this long.”
Braun said that because of the long process leading up to the review, the city would not have the report in time to effect the budget.
“I want to hear what the city manager has to say about it. He may have some ideas,” said Braun. “But having been here a year, I see there is money to be saved.”
Mayor Bruce Banman said the postponement is appropriate, as new city manager George Murray will be starting on Feb. 3. Murray is a certified general accountant and council is hoping he can provide insight into city spending on services.
Banman said the city has received three proposals for the review that would each cost around $250,000 to conduct.
