The City of Abbotsford will implement a COVID-19 vaccination policy in the coming weeks, according to a press release issued Friday afternoon (Nov. 5).

The release states that the new policy will require all city employees who are not fully vaccinated – or who choose not to disclose their vaccine status – to comply with the city’s “COVID-19 test screening program.”

The city was not providing any further details Friday afternoon on what the program would entail or how many employees could be impacted, saying only that more information will be shared when the policy is finalized.

The press release states that throughout the pandemic, the city has closely followed provincial guidelines and protocol.

“Implementing a vaccination policy is consistent with that direction and is an additional measure to ensure our workplaces remain as safe as possible,” the release states.

“With 81 per cent of eligible Abbotsford residents fully vaccinated and 87 per cent partially vaccinated, the City believes this direction also aligns with the views of the majority of Abbotsford residents.”
