Cineplex is building a new 43,000-square-foot entertainment complex in Abbotsford.

The 11-screen theatre will feature 1,950 seats, digital projection, RealD 3D technology, three VIP cinemas and one UltraAVX auditorium.

"It's all about providing our guests with a choice in how they want to enjoy their experience," said Kyle Moffat, director of communications with Cineplex Entertainment.

Cineplex Odeon Abbotsford will be the first newly built theatre in B.C. to offer VIP cinemas. Moviegoers can enjoy reserved seating, oversized premium stadium seats, in-seat food and beverage service, and access to a private licensed lounge.

UltraAVX auditoriums feature wall-to-wall screens, Dolby digital 7.1 surround sound, extra-wide high-back rocker chairs and reserved seating. There are currently only 11 Ultra AVX locations across Canada.

Moffat said the new theatre will employ about 200 people, from construction to the permanent and part-time operational staff.

Cineplex Odeon Abbotsford is being built as part of the High Street shopping centre project, on Mt. Lehman Road across from the Fraser Valley Auto Mall. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with the theatre opening in spring 2012.

Cineplex Entertainment is building similar complexes in Edmonton, Alta. and Chatham, Ont. A seven-screen theatre with UltraAVX is also opening in Langford, B.C. this spring.

Cineplex operates Cineplex Odeon, Galaxy, Famous Players, Colossus, Coliseum, SilverCity, Cinema City and Scotiabank Theatres.
