Chilliwack RCMP are looking for a man who attempted to grab a young boy on Brooks Avenue Wednesday morning.

A report came in around 8:15 a.m. saying a Robertson elementary school student had been involved in an altercation with the unknown man. Three children, ages 7, 11 and 12 were on their way to school. Two were walking and the boy was riding a scooter.

As he passed a parked minivan, a man reached out the drivers’ side window and tried to grab him. The boy was quick enough to avoid the hand and screamed as he ran for help.

“This incident is disturbing and the Chilliwack RCMP is continuing efforts to identify and locate this suspect,” said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk. “Nothing was said during this altercation and the man’s motives and intent remain unclear.”

Vrolyk said the investigation is a priority and asks anyone with info to phone the RCMP immediately at 604-792-4611.

The man drove off before he could be identified, but police do have a description.

Witnesses say he was wearing a camouflage jacket and was approximately 30 to 40 years old. He had a short, scruffy beard.

The minivan is described as greyish in colour with a small dent near the passenger side of the back bumper.
