Chilliwack man, 19, charged with sex assault

19-year-old old victim called police last Saturday from Abbotsford hospital alleging sex assault near Spadina Avenue and Yale Road.

A 19-year-old Chilliwack man is charged with sexually assaulting a young woman in downtown Chilliwack in the early morning hours last Saturday.

Chilliwack RCMP got a call at 6:20 a.m. on Sept. 29 from the 19-year-old victim who was at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital saying she had been physically and sexually assaulted in Chilliwack near Spadina Avenue and Yale Road.

RCMP Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth said Chilliwack investigators were quickly able to identify a suspect, who was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The suspect, Cameron Leon, is charged with sex assault causing bodily harm and assault causing bodily harm.

Leon was held in custody until a court appearance scheduled for Oct. 3 in Chilliwack.

Police said at the time of the Saturday assault, Leon was on an undertaking that stemmed from a previous sexual assault charge in 2011.
