Crews were on the scene Friday where a vehicle went down an embankment on Harris Road.

A pregnant driver lost control of her Toyota 4Runner and slid off the road, ending up 20 feet down an embankment in Abbotsford on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place at about 12:15 p.m. on Harris Road just east of Olund Road.

The woman, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was driving east at the time when she went off the road and down the embankment on the north side of the road. Her vehicle ended up facing west.

She was not injured, but was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Crews at the scene said the woman, who is 6 1/2 months pregnant, was fortunate that the vehicle was stopped by trees and did not roll or slide farther down the slope, which drops about 120 feet.

Abbotsford Police, Fire Rescue and ambulance services were on the scene.

Westbound traffic was diverted along Bates Road, while eastbound vehicles were diverted along Olund Road while the scene was cleared.
