Capacity boosted for Bevan wells

Watering bans shouldn’t be an issue this summer, due to the approval of the Bevan wells groundwater supply project.

Watering bans shouldn’t be an issue this summer, due to the approval of the Bevan wells groundwater supply project.

The City of Abbotsford recently received an environmental assessment certificate. The Bevan wells have been used at a lower capacity, said Tracy Kyle, Abbotsford’s water and solid waste manager. The wells can now be used at full charge.

The $3.5-million project will increase the pumping capacity of the four operating wells from the current rate of 74.9 litres per second to 290 litres per second. Mitigation wells are presently being installed at Horne Creek and Boa Brook to augment the water flow in the creeks so they aren’t impacted, said Kyle.
