The annual Vimy Ridge parade and candlelight vigil was held at Thunderbird Square on Veterans' Way in Abbotsford last night.

Family members, dignitaries, politicians and members of the public gathered last night (Wednesday) to pay their respects during a candlelight vigil marking Vimy Ridge Day.

The event, hosted by the Abbotsford Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, featured descendants of Vimy Ridge veterans placing candles in memory of their ancestors’ sacrifice.

The battle of Vimy Ridge began April 9, 1917 in France during the First World War. The Canadian Corps successfully battled the Germans to gain control of the strategically valuable ground.
