Cabela’s Canada will open its new store in Abbotsford June 23, the outdoor outfitter announced Tuesday.

The 70,000-square-foot store is the chain’s second in British Columbia and is the anchor tenant of the 130,000-square-foot McCallum Junction shopping centre.

According to a press release, “the store is designed to surround customers in an immersive outdoor experience with wood construction, stonework, a large mountain replica, indoor archery range and dozens of museum-quality wildlife displays. It will also include a gun library, firearms counter, conference room, fudge shop, and Bargain Cave.”

The retailer will employ 220 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, according to the company.

The store’s opening, on June 23, will begin a “weekend-long celebration featuring giveaways, family activities, guest appearances and more,” the company said. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m., with doors opening at 10 a.m.

The opening comes ahead of schedule, with a fall 2016 opening date originally anticipated.
