Businesses to weigh in on new Official Community Plan for Abbotsford

City hosts stakeholder meeting for businesses Thursday evening.

The Abbotsford business community will get to weigh in with its vision on the city’s long-term future next week.

Abbotsford, which is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP), will host a Business Stakeholder Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clearbrook Library (32320 George Ferguson Way).

The city has invited members of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, Abbotsford Downtown Business Association and the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association to meet with staff, who will share what they’ve learned about Abbotsford and listen to the ideas and opinions of representatives of the business sector.

“The current OCP was created in 2005 and provided for a certain degree of flexibility in how the city developed,” said Allan Asaph, executive director of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

“Since then, a lot has changed and the city needs to hear from its residents about what kind of city they want to live, work and play in. The OCP review process is our way to have a meaningful role in the future of Abbotsford,” Asaph added.

The city is also hosting a series of “road show events” and neighbourhood walks during February and March to engage residents in the OPC review process and has created a survey to allow residents to share their vision for the future. The survey is available at www.abbotsforward.metroquest.ca.
