Henry Braun's dominance in the west of Abbotsford was enough to overcome Bruce Banman popularity in the city's east in Saturday's tight mayoral race.

Braun, a councillor, was elected after winning the overall vote by less than 600 votes over Banman, the incumbent mayor.

But different areas of the city favoured different candidates, according to results at Abbotsford's 18 different polling station.

Braun won polling stations located on the city's rural margins and in Matsqui, while Banman triumphed in the city's east and on Sumas Mountain.

In addition to his rural victories, Braun claimed victory within Abbotsford's rural area at all polling stations west of Ware Street, with the exception of WJ Mouat Secondary, where Banman received two votes more than Braun.

Braun also claimed more votes in advance and special voting.

In the councillor's race, Patricia Ross gained the most votes at all but three polling stations

Raji Buttar and Moe Gill tied for top spot at Blue Jay elementary. Buttar also gained the most votes at Clearbrook elementary. And at Rick Hansen secondary, Daljit Singh Sidhu's name was on the most ballots.
