The body of Abbotsford's Christopher Vang has been recovered by RCMP and Chilliwack Search and Rescue.
The local mechanic was swept away in the current while fishing on the Fraser River at the Peg Leg area near McSween Road in Chilliwack on Sept. 12.
An extensive search and rescue operation was undertaken to locate the fisherman days following his disappearance, however he was not located. Family and friends continued to search to no avail.
On Tuesday (Sept. 20), shortly before 7 p.m. a fisherman spotted the man's body at the apex of the Fraser River near the Vedder River
"This has obviously been very devastating for the Vang family and they are asking for privacy as this time," said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck of the Chilliwack RCMP.
Christopher's family has been notified and the BC Coroners Office now has conduct of the investigation.
