Mission firefighters battled a house fire on Dewdney Trunk Road Sunday night.

Around 9:20 p.m., a caller reported his neighbour’s home, located near the Ukrainian hall, was on fire.

Mission Fire/Rescue Service was on scene for about two hours and managed to contain the fire to one corner of the building, said Chief Ian Fitzpatrick, who added the home was a licensed medical marijuana operation, compliant with Health Canada regulations.

The fire originated in the attic, he said, but a cause has not been determined, however, it is not considered suspicious, and is believed to be electrical.

Due to firefighters’ quick work, damage was contained to the attic space, and there was very little smoke damage, he said.
