Big White Ski Resort scores high in ski vacation evaluation

German website evaluation ranks Big White as one of the best ski resorts in the world.

The Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna will start off the 2014-15 ski season on a very upbeat note.

That’s because Big White continues to earn ski industry accolades for offering up winter-themed fun for the whole family.

Snow Action Magazine in Australia named Big White its 2014 Family Ski Resort of the Year, and the resort made the Out & About with Kids Best of Family Awards list as their pick for the 2014 Best International Family Ski Resort.

Whether the mini-me loves the slopes, ice-skating or even ice climbing, Big White has an activity to suit every taste. Parents can drop off their little skiers and boarders for some private coaching while they shred the fresh powder. Or they can watch them drive their first snowmobile on the Mini-Z, a specialty track just for kids.

And more recently, Big White was named one of the Top Ski Resorts from a world-renowned resort test portal based in Germany. After an assessment covering 18 stringent criteria, the site Skiresort.info awarded Big White 4.3 out of a possible five stars.

The site also ranked Big White as its test winner in the Beginner category, highlighting how easy it is to learn to ski at the resort. As part of the site’s evaluation, Big White earned a total of 16 awards, including Top Slope Offering and Run Variety, Top Ski Lifts, Top Snow Reliability and Top Eco-friendly Operation.

Industry authorities around the world recognize that it’s all that beautiful champagne powder that makes Big White one of Canada’s top ski snowboard destinations.

With an average annual snowfall of nearly 7.5 meters (24.5 feet), Big White boasts 118 runs spread across five powder bowls. And the Telegraph UK took note of the resort’s easy access to the slopes, naming Big White its 2014 Best Ski-in, Ski-out Resort. CNN also added Big White’s ‘The Cliff’ run to its list of the Top 100 Ski Runs in the World.

The resort’s tentative opening date is Thursday, Nov. 27 with the lifts spinning until April 12, 2015, for the longest ski eason in the Okanagan.
