Police are advising people to use extreme caution on the roads, especially those travelling in the Sumas Flats area, where snowdrifts stranded more than a dozen people overnight.
Const. Ian MacDonald said upwards of 20 motorists and passengers needed to be rescued last night after their cars became stuck in blowing snow. Most of the incidents took place in the Vye Road area on Sumas Prairie.
"We spent a good deal of the night digging them out," MacDonald said.
Highway 1 has not been hit with the same scale of incidents, although police are advising motorists to use caution.
No serious accidents have been reported, although there have been several incidents of vehicles leaving the roadway.
