The BCSPCA warns Chilliwack dog owners to watch for anything suspicious after four reports of dogs becoming ill after ingesting unknown, toxic substances.

In a Nov. 20 statement, the BCSPCA said the reports of sick pets came from four separate Chilliwack parks: Rotary Trail, Peach Park, Vedder Park and Anglers Boulevard, all in the River’s Edge area.

“Some individuals have reported seeing dog food with an unknown powdered substance, but we have not been able to confirm this,” BCSCPA senior officer of protection and stakeholder relations Eileen Drever said.

Drever urged dog owners to keep their pets leashed and be vigilant about suspicious substances that might put pets at risk.

Symptoms of toxic-substance-related illness in this case include lethargy, excessive vomiting and diarrhea.

In the event of illness, the BCSPCA advises owners to seek veterinary help immediately. Officers are patrolling the area. Those with any information should contact the BCSPCA Call Center at 1-855-622-7722 or call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.
