Dozens of dogs of all shapes and sizes strolled through Mill Lake Park with their owners this afternoon in support of the 2012 annual Scotiabank and BC SPCA "Paws for a Cause" fundraiser.

The event raises nearly $1 million each year towards improving animal welfare in B.C.

The atmosphere was contagious, as dogs played happily with one another while their owners shared stories of how they rescued their four legged friend from a life of hardship.

Others walked in honor of a family member, such as the Lewis family who raised over $3000 in memory of their daughter and former SPCA employee, Alicia Lewis.

The event began at 9 a.m. with registration, and then the walk with a scavenger was underway by 10 a.m. Following the walk there was a BBQ by donation for participants, as well as prizes and relay races before wrapping up at 1 p.m.

The constant support and participation of owners makes it "paw-sible" for the BC SPCA to continue their great work to save the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected animals in the community.
