British Columbia has devoted over 100 firefighting personnel to the province of Quebec, which was has been hit with wildfires that have forced hundreds to flee their homes.
According to the Canadian Press, Friday's winds pushed pushed flames away from a community called Eastmain, which was hit particularly hard by blazes. In the last month, wildfires have charred 40,000 hectares of forest.
A dry summer is being blamed for the fires – the driest in 40 years, according to CP.
The CBC reported on Friday that rain had helped to cure some of fires in Eastmain, near James Bay, and they expected some people to begin returning to their homes on the weekend.
A state of emergency for the area was also lifted.
Also on Friday, lightning sparked new fires near the Northern Quebec Cree community of Wemindji.
B.C. Forests Minister and the government's newsroom announced the Province was sending 20 more men on Sunday, which brings the total to over 100. B.C. firefighters are deployed to Quebec as "Unit Crews" and they can be away for up to 19 days, and recalled at any time.
The government's website says "a 20-person sustained action crew that typically works on large fires and can be self-sufficient in the field for up to 72 hours at a time."
