Art work at two local fire halls will be unveiled later this year.

The City of Abbotsford has chosen the artwork that will adorn two new firehalls, but the public won't see the result until the projects are complete.

The city opened two new firehalls last year, but both locations were without the public art required by a city policy. That rule stipulates that one per cent of the budget for new capital projects should go towards some sort of public art.

After Coun. Dave Loewen raised the issue, the city issued a request for proposals.

It has now awarded the contract for Firehall 4 to Studio Bjarnson Architects, and for Firehall 5 to Tara-Lynn Perrin and Aaron Young.

The Studio Bjarnson Architects proposal was in line with the posted budget of $15,380, while Perrin and Young's proposal came in at the cost of $7,000.

The artworks will be unveiled upon completion.
