Alcohol will soon be served at Abbotsford gaming centre

Council has granted second and third reading to a liquor license request by Chances gaming centre in Abbotsford.

Patrons at Chances Community Gaming Centre will soon be able to enjoy a drink while playing slot machines.

Abbotsford council gave second and third reading to a request to give the local gaming centre a liquor licence.

Council first listened to a public hearing that featured 12 speakers, 11 in favour of the liquor licence proposal and one that voiced caution, but did not oppose the move.

Considering the lack of public opposition, council voted in favour of moving forward.

Coun. Henry Braun originally voted against allowing alcohol at the gaming centre, but said he changed his mind.

I had concerns that the liquor would be served free, as they do in Vegas, but from the delegation I understand that that is not the case ... and since that council meeting I did tour the facility,” said Braun, who called it an impressive operation.

Council now has to give the licence request fourth and final reading.
