Abbotsford’s “gravity hill” has succumbed to the laws of gravity.
The locally famous spot, located in the 35800-block of McKee Road near Ledgeview Golf and Country Club, was most recently repaved in May of 2017 and users online have speculated that the re-pavement led to its powers disappearing.
A recent investigation by an Abbotsford News reporter confirmed that the hill no longer rolls cars uphill when put in neutral.
A YouTube video posted in 2009 displays what used to happen at the location, with the user James Waugh and his family experiencing the phenomena for all to see.
A blog post in 2011 by a user known as ‘The One Constant’ also reiterated the legitimacy of the Abbotsford attraction, stating that it was “worth the trip”. To view that blog post visit, the-one-constant.blogspot.com/2011/03/gravity-hill-abbotsford.html.
An unofficial Facebook page on the location has collected nine likes, with Facebook user Jas Mahay stating back on July 21, 2018 that the ‘gravity hill’ did indeed work for him at that time.
More recently, several Google users have submitted reviews on “gravity hill”, with all three users giving the experience one star.
“Drove all along the road, stopped at several spots… Couldn’t find the “gravity hill” effect. I’ve experienced it before at another place, I guess all the development around there takes away the visual deception,” stated user Harveen Singh about three months ago.
User Aaron Bayes agreed, suggesting that the effect no longer exists.
“This road was refinished a number of years ago and the effect was ruined,” he posted, earlier this week.
Another user, Trevor Samulksi, refused to add any additional comment and just bluntly ranked the hill one star earlier this week.
The news of the Abbotsford “gravity hill” no longer existing has likely disappointed fans of other B.C. gravity hills in Maple Ridge and Vernon, both of which recently made the news.
