With $2 billion in spending promises and counting, Adrian Dix and the NDP are speeding towards a fiscal cliff, said Liberal Minister of Finance and Abbotsford West MLA  Mike de Jong.

"One week into the campaign and all we've seen from Adrian Dix is how fast he can spend your money," de Jong stated in a press release Sunday that was accompanied by a YouTube video of what the Liberal party calls the "Spend-o-Meter," which purports to show the rising dollar value of NDP election promises.

"And while the money is being spent very quickly, the NDP refuse to say how they'll pay for it all or even provide any details. They think it's their money, when it's really taxpayers' money."

Noting it was this same prolific spending that forced British Columbia into have-not status under the NDP, de Jong said the economy  can't afford Dix.

"Speed kills and the NDP is speeding towards a cliff that will send the B.C. economy right over the edge," he stated. "As a province, we're doing better than most jurisdictions in North America because we're balancing the budget, controlling spending, keeping taxes low and making smart investments."

"The Spend-o-Meter shows British Columbians in a very direct way how much the NDP want to spend without any plan to pay for it," added de Jong.

All three credit rating agencies – which reaffirmed B.C's credit rating following the 2013 Liberal budget  – have said a return to running deficits will mean British Columbia will lose its credit rating.
