Abbotsford’s two Liberal MLAs have received their appointments as Official Opposition shadow ministers.
Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman, who had served as the Official Opposition critic for citizens’ services, now has an expanded role as shadow minister for emergency management, climate readiness and citizen services.
Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong, a former lawyer, retains his role as shadow minister for attorney general.
BC Liberal leader Kevin Falcon announced all the Official Opposition appointments on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 8).
“As the Official Opposition, we have a responsibility to make sure (Premier) David Eby and the NDP are held accountable for their decisions in government and I’m excited to name new opposition shadow ministers today to do just that,” Falcon said in a press release.
Eby announced his ministerial appointments on Wednesday. Abbotsford-Mission MLA Pam Alexis was named minister of agriculture and food.
Banman, a former Abbotsford mayor and councillor, was elected as an MLA in 2020.
De Jong was first elected as an MLA in 1994.
