Construction of new homes continues to increase in Abbotsford and Mission.

The number of homes being built is up 16 per cent through the first five months of 2017 compared to 2016.

So far this year, construction has begun on 650 new units of housing. More than three-quarters of those were attached units, like townhouses and apartments.

The increase in housing starts comes after 2016 was already particularly busy, with construction beginning on more than 1,100 new units.

The housing starts news come as home prices continue to rise dramatically. The ‘typical’ single-family house now costs almost $750,000, according to the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.
